Rest in Peace, EGM

7 01 2009

This is a sad day for game journalism. Ziff Davis Media, (former) owners of the 1UP network, have sold said network to the Hearst Corporation. Hearst, however, are only interested in keeping the online aspect of the network running, meaning that Electronic Gaming Monthly gets the axe. After almost 20 years in print, EGM is no more.

And to make matters worse, not all of the 1UP staff are keeping their jobs under the new management. In fact, a good number of their best staffers aren’t, including such vets as Shane Bettenhausen and (once again, former) Editor-In-Chief James “Milkman” Mielke.

The struggling economy is hard on everybody, but it still stings to see such a great publication die and leave so many talented journalists out of a job.
